Science Sundays

We restarted Science Sundays a few weeks ago. It is something that we have done a couple of times in the past but it hasn't really lasted that long. This time feels different. The wee one is loving it! Her dad and I had a chat the other week about how she is so much more interested in the world and he has been taking the lead on Science Sundays.

The first Sunday she was in a mood, but Dad persevered and the did rather simple exercise which involves mapping out the solar system on a roll of toilet paper to visualise how far the planets are from our Sun and each other. As it started raining, they had to do it inside so we ended up with the Sun at the letterbox, Saturn halfway up the stairs, and Pluto in our bedroom. The wee one still likes telling people, "Uranus was in my bedroom!"

Cue hysterical laughter.

A couple of weeks ago saw her jumping up and down for joy when the water density reached a point where the egg started to float. (They dissolved salt in water to increase the density and then boiled it to get back to salt crystals.)

But really...actual screeching and jumping for joy when the egg floated!  She is loving the discovery, and the having of the fun with her Dad!

Below are photos from today's science. Non Newtonian Fluids. Whole family getting involved. Making "snow" balls and trying to pass them to each other before they "melt".  Punching and dripping. Is it a solid? Is it a liquid? Dropping an egg in a bag of corn flour? Talking about Kevlar and safety properties?

Science is fun. :-)
